Many Fairies have clothing that look like petals and parts of the flowers.

Some faries have tattered and torn garments.

Some have delicate flowing garments, like chiffon or silk.

     Characteristics & Faces:

Fairy resembling a Child- Clothing simple & delicate.

One of the most common features of all Fairies is that they have Wings. I have yet to see a fairy without them.

They are usually smaller then normal humans- but not depicted smaller all the time.

Although fairies can be male or female, females are much more common.

Fairies are said to be mischievous and sometimes pull practical jokes on humans.

Many Fairies are also said to be able to have the ability to distort a humans perception of reality. A good example of this is in the book Spiderwick. In the story Aunt Lucida ate berries given to her from the fairies, and the taste was so spectacular that she was never able to eat any other kind of food.

       World Famous Fairies

Tinkerbell

One of the most famous fairies is Tinker Bell. You may not know the author of the famous story of Peter Pan is James Matthew Barrie. A most interesting fact is that the story we know as Peter Pan was not the first of Barrie's stories about the character.

For More about J.M. Barrie go to: http://www.chasingthefrog.com/reelfaces/findingneverland.php

Depictions of Tinkerbell in recent years have obscured J.M. Barrie's original intent for the character. The origin of the name Tinkerbell comes from the character's ability to fix pots and cauldrons (tinker), a skill that has been foregone in favor of her use of fairy dust.

Barrie bequeathed the copyright to creation, Peter Pan, to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Early Sketch of Tinker Bell Margaret Kerry's website  http://www.tinkerbelltalks.com/

Tinker Bell was based on singer/actress Margaret Kerry. Margaret was the live action model for Tinker Bell.

Tinkerbell is most known as being the worldwide symbol for the Magic Kingdom.

Recently Pixie Hollow is beaming with fairies, a few are: Tinker Bell and all of her friends – Fawn, Iridessa, Rosetta, Silvermist, Bess, Fira, Lily, Beck, Prilla, Rani, Vidia, Fairy Mary and Queen Clarion.

                        Fairy Ring

A fairy ring, also known as fairy circle, elf circle or pixie ring, is a naturally occurring ring or arc of mushrooms.  (Def. from http://www.wikipedia.com/)

The fairy ring was believed to be a kind of portal to the fairy knigdom. Legions told stories of people stepping into the ring and never being seen again.
